Marketplace listings show you the product price and nothing else. What they do not show is everything that makes the camera still be working, and still be there, a year later.
This is the number the marketplace listing shows you — a box with a camera in it, and nothing else.
The listing rarely includes one. Recording needs a surveillance-rated card sized for the days you actually want to keep.
A 30–40 W panel and a cell sized for four overcast days. The bundled panel on a cheap kit is usually 8–10 W, which is a fair-weather panel.
A wall mount is the simple case. A 10–12 ft galvanised pole set in concrete on a plot boundary is not, and it is what most farm positions need.
Sealed glands, a junction box and an earth on anything mounted on a pole in open ground. Skipping this is why cameras die in the first monsoon.
Signal measured on more than one network, the strongest chosen, band locked where it helps, app configured and handed over working.
A remote site is a day, not an hour. This is the line every online listing leaves you to solve yourself, and the reason most DIY kits end up remounted.
Not every line applies to every site. A position with a wall and a socket loses the pole and the panel. We itemise all of it on the quotation precisely so you can see what you are paying for and strike out anything you do not need — including buying the camera yourself and having us install it, which some customers do and which we are happy to quote.
Before you buy
A camera that works without WiFi solves exactly one problem — there is no network at the site — and it solves it completely. On a property that already has broadband, it is a monthly bill you did not need to take on.
A farm, a plot, a quarry, a pump house, a plot boundary a kilometre from the nearest building. This is the case a 4G CCTV camera exists for, and nothing else covers it at any price.
Solar and battery make the camera independent of both cables at once. A site with power but no internet is cheaper — the camera runs on mains and the panel comes off the quote.
A construction site, an event ground, a project office. Nothing is cabled in, and at handover the whole installation unbolts and goes to the next site rather than being written off.
A second house, an inherited plot, a shuttered unit. A camera that works without WiFi means no broadband bill for a building nobody is in — and a motion alert on your phone the moment somebody walks the compound.
A remote godown on a line that drops weekly. A 4G camera does not care, and for one or two critical positions it is cheaper than a second wired connection.
Then WiFi cameras cost less to buy and nothing to run. A 4G camera on a site with a working router is a data bill you volunteered for.
Each one needs its own SIM and its own plan unless you put a 4G router on site and run the cameras to it over WiFi or cable. Past a handful, that router-and-NVR kit is the cheaper shape and we will quote it that way.
Continuous live viewing over a SIM is the one use that genuinely does burn 100 GB a month. If that is the brief, the site needs a broadband line and a proper recorder.
Camera bodies
What separates these is mostly how much open ground they have to cover and whether anything on site can power them. A dual-lens tracker over a field does work a fixed bullet at a gate never will — and costs four times as much doing it.

What you are buying
Failures on 4G installations are almost never the camera. They are a panel too small for the monsoon, a signal nobody measured, a pole that moved, or a data plan that quietly expired. So those get specified as carefully as the optics do.
3 MP covers a gate, a yard or a shed front. 5 MP and dual-lens units are for positions where you need to read a plate or track someone across an open field rather than just know they were there.
Coverage at a rural mount point is not what the network map claims. We measure the actual signal on more than one operator before choosing, lock the band where that steadies a marginal position, and size the plan against what the camera will really use.
The panel bundled with a cheap kit is sized for a sunny week. Ours is sized for the run of overcast days Chennai gets in October, because a camera that dies in the monsoon dies exactly when you needed it.
Most 4G positions are not walls. A pole in open ground has to survive wind, cattle and somebody deciding to lean a ladder on it, and it has to be tall enough that the camera is not the first thing a trespasser reaches.
The card in the camera is the archive and it costs nothing to fill. The SIM carries the clips you get alerted to and the live view you open. Understanding which is which is what keeps the data bill at ₹300 a month instead of ₹3,000.
Running cost
The figure circulating online is 60 to 120 GB a month, and it is describing continuous cloud upload — which is both an understatement of that configuration and a description of something nobody should be sold. Here is what each activity really costs, so you can build your own total.

A properly configured camera on a normal site lands at 5 to 10 GB a month, which any ordinary prepaid plan covers several times over. The way to spend more than that is to leave full-quality live view open for hours, or to enable continuous cloud upload — and we will configure either if you ask, having told you what it costs first.
The number that decides everything
A network's own map says a village is covered. What matters is the signal at the top of the pole you are about to set in concrete, on the operator that actually reaches it — so we measure it, on more than one SIM, before quoting.

Where a position reads below the floor, the fix is a directional external antenna, a taller pole or a different operator — and it goes in the quotation rather than appearing as a complaint three weeks later. Where nothing fixes it, we say so and do not take the job.
What it costs installed
Camera, power, mount, weatherproofing, SIM setup and labour — everything except travel beyond the metropolitan region, which is quoted as its own line.

Where it goes
None of them has a router, and most of them have no reliable power either. That is the whole qualification — everything else about these installations is a variation on pole height and panel size.
How we fit it
A single solar camera on a wall is a half-day. A pole set in concrete needs the concrete to cure, so that is two visits — and you get both dates with the quotation rather than after the first one.
The location matters more than the building here. A pin on a map lets us check tower coverage before anybody drives out, and rules the job in or out on the same call.
An engineer reads the actual cellular signal at each proposed mount point, on more than one operator, and checks the sun path for anything going on solar. That is what decides positions — not where the camera would look nice.
