IP CCTV basicsWhat is IP CCTV, and how is it different from analog CCTV?
An IP camera digitises the video at the lens and sends it over a network cable to an NVR (network video recorder). An analog camera sends a raw signal down coax to a DVR. In practice that means an IP system gives you higher resolution (up to 8 MP against 5 MP), power delivered from the switch itself so there is no separate supply unit at any camera, AI analytics running on the camera itself, two-way audio and encrypted remote access — and it grows by adding a switch port rather than replacing the recorder.
IP CCTV basicsDo I need 4K cameras everywhere?
No, and it usually costs you retention if you do. 4 MP covers most working areas comfortably. Reserve 8 MP (4K) for the positions where a face or a number plate has to be readable — entrances, counters, gates, dock doors. A mixed specification gives you better evidence where it matters and weeks more footage on the same hard disk.
StorageHow many days of footage will an NVR keep?
On a single 4 TB surveillance drive recording 24/7 with H.265+: roughly 28 days for eight 2 MP cameras, 14 days for eight 4 MP cameras, and about 7 days for eight 8 MP cameras. Switching to motion or event-triggered recording typically stretches those by two and a half to three times. We size the disk against the retention you need rather than shipping whatever came in the box.
PricingWhat does an IP CCTV system cost in Chennai?
A four-camera 4 MP system with NVR, hard disk, CAT6 cabling and installation runs about ₹25,000 to ₹38,000. Eight 4 MP cameras with a PoE switch land between ₹45,000 and ₹60,000, and an eight-camera 4K system with AI analytics between ₹85,000 and ₹1,20,000. Cable length and mounting height move a quote more than the camera model does, which is why the survey comes before the price.
InstallationCan I reuse my existing analog cabling?
Coax cannot carry an IP camera directly, but it does not always have to be replaced. Where the existing 3+1 or RG59 is in good condition we can run IP over it using EoC converters, or reuse structured Ethernet already in the building. If neither is viable we will tell you what fresh CAT6 costs before you commit — that assessment is part of the free survey.
InstallationHow long does installation take?
A four to eight camera system is normally surveyed, cabled, installed, configured and handed over in one working day. Sixteen to sixty-four cameras with structured cabling take two to five days depending on the building. You get a dated timeline with the quote, and occupied sites are phased so nothing stops.
Remote accessDo I need a static IP to view cameras on my phone?
No. Remote viewing runs over the manufacturer's encrypted cloud (P2P), so it works on an ordinary broadband or 4G connection with nothing forwarded on your router. That matters for security as much as convenience — an open port on a recorder is the single most common way CCTV systems get compromised.
ReliabilityWhat happens to recording during a power cut?
The NVR and the PoE switch go on a UPS, so cameras and recording ride through the short outages Chennai gets regularly. For longer cuts we size the UPS to your generator changeover time. Cameras keep recording to an on-board SD card where the model supports it, and the footage merges back into the NVR when power returns.
SupportWhat is covered by the free AMC?
Twelve months from the day the system goes live: preventive visits, camera cleaning and re-aiming, firmware updates, health checks on the disk and the network, priority helpdesk and repairs on covered faults. It is included in the installation price, not raised as a renewal six months later.
